Frequently asked questions.

What is the interview process like?
Our interviews are gentle conversations recorded online from the comfort of your own home, where you share your life stories at your own pace. We sensitively guide and prompt you to bring out your story and make the experience comfortable and meaningful. You can take as many breaks as needed and talk about whatever you like.

Can I choose video or audio only?
Yes, we offer video or audio interviews based on your preference, ensuring a format that suits your comfort level.

Are interviews online or in person?
Interviews are conducted online via the Riverside App. We prioritise your convenience. We provide full easy to follow instructions for the interview process.

How long do interviews last?
Sessions are 3 hours, 4 hours, or 6 hours, with flexibility for additional hours if needed.

How long is the finished memoir?
It all depends on the interview, we limit editing to give a fuller more natural feel, and only remove sections if you want us too. So final recordings are a similar length to the interview.

Do I need to prepare anything?
Very little preparation is required, we provide an easy to follow guide on how to set up for the interview. You can take some time to reflect on anything you might want to talk about, though in our experience, everything that needs to be said will usually come up naturally once you relax into the process and allow our questions and curiosity to work with your recollections to create a natural story of your life.

Will family members be involved?
We suggest you make space and time for the interview for yourself alone, so you can speak freely without worrying about what you say. Some people find it useful to have a tech-savvy friend or family member to hand before we start to make sure all the tech is working—it’s entirely up to you.

Is the process private and secure?
Absolutely; recordings are stored securely and shared only with you via private links.

What if I’m not tech-savvy?
You don’t need to be. We offer step-by-step guidance for the whole process to alleviate any technical concerns.

How is the final memoir delivered?
As a video or audio file via an online link, with extras like transcripts, and usb drives for a lasting keepsake.

What if I need to reschedule?
Rescheduling is straightforward and free with advance notice, ensuring the process fits your schedule seamlessly.

Can I stop or pause the interview if I need a break?
Yes, you can pause or stop at any time; we’ll resume when you’re ready, ensuring a relaxed experience.

What equipment do I need for an online interview?
Just a device with dependable internet, a built in camera and microphone (e.g., smartphone or laptop); try to use the best device you have or can borrow, we’ll guide you through setup so no need to worry.

How soon will I receive my memoir after the interview?
Expect your memoir within 1-2 weeks after editing, depending on your package and preferences.

Can I review the memoir before it’s finalised?
Yes, we’ll share a draft for your feedback, ensuring you are happy with the result.

Are there language or accent preferences for interviews?
Our interviews are for English speakers only at present and welcome all accents, capturing your authentic voice with care.

What if I’m nervous about sharing my story?
Our empathetic approach helps ease nerves; we start with light topics and proceed at your comfort level. Just be yourself, that’s all your family want in future- to find out who you really are.

Can I add more stories after the initial session?
Yes, additional hours can be booked to include further memories.

Is there a cost for the initial consultation?
No, the 15-minute consultation is free to discuss your needs and preferences.

What happens if my internet fails during an online interview?
We’ll pause and reconnect if needed, our recording process happens via the Riverside app so everything is recorded by your device, this means the internet connection won’t affect the quality of the finished recording. If problems persist we can reschedule to ensure your story is fully captured.

Do I have to share my finished Memoir straight away?
It’s entirely up to you, you decide who gets to see it and when. Some people decide to only share their story with family after they have passed on, leaving instructions for how to share it in their will.

Can I make a recording with my spouse or partner?
We recommend that couples record separately from their spouses or partners, as this allows people to really get their truth across without worrying about the dynamics of a relationship. We are happy to talk it through and create the experience that you are most comfortable with.
